Vessel Arrival & Docking Specifications

Whether arriving by private vessel or our designated electric water taxi shuttles, proper maritime navigation procedures must be followed inside the harbor perimeter.

Access for Private Watercraft

Libraries Tunnelsy offers 12 private mooring slips inside the enclosed outer harbor. All slips are equipped with high-durability rubber bumpers and automatic tide-adjusting line anchor nodes to secure your boat.

Due to absolute vibration controls within our low-frequency vaults, private motor vessels must cut combustion engines at our harbor buoy outer marker and engage electric trolling motors for final lock entry.

Water Taxi Shuttles: Run continuously every 20 minutes from Pier 40 public dock directly to the Libraries Tunnelsy Main Water-Level Atrium.

Vessel Operations Pre-Arrival Checklist

Before executing final approach maneuvers within our concrete lock facilities, ship captains must complete these baseline safety operations.

Bridge Verification Protocols
  • Radio Verification: Contact the Docking Coordinator via Marine VHF Radio Channel 14 at least 15 minutes before approaching the outer buoy markers.
  • Power System Transition: Disable internal combustion engines completely and transition power flow to silent auxiliary electric trolling motors.
  • Fender Deployments: Set up at least two high-impact horizontal pneumatic bumpers on the dock-facing gunwale to safeguard concrete locks.
  • Line Setup: Prepare high-tensile dual-spring bow and stern ropes for rapid attachment to the tide-adjusting dock anchors.

Vessel Operations & Safety Standards

Our facility operates under strict United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Massachusetts Port Authority water safety standards.

1. Speed Control

Strictly No-Wake zones apply inside our harbor limit. Watercraft speeds must remain under 3 knots to prevent hydraulic scouring along our vault foundations.

2. Draft Restrictions

Maximum vessel draft permitted inside the Tunnel reception locks is 1.8 meters at mean low water. Larger hulls must utilize the deep-water moorings near the outer beacon.

3. Safe Mooring

Our slipways require dual-spring bow and stern lines. Self-adjusting pneumatic fenders must be utilized to maintain adequate clearance from concrete docks.
